| Nora Ephron dies at 71; writer of sharp-edged romances.
More privileged and more talented than most women, she nonetheless often spoke to women in general. Heartburn arrived in the bookstores at a particularly difficult time for me. Helped me to laugh again. For that book alone I've never criticized any of her work.
But what has me a bit spooked is that for the past week, I've been haunted by her phrase 'I Remember Nothing'. The difference is that she was there and can't remember it and I can't remember all the time and reasons why I wasn't there. Okay, too far away and/or too crowded were common reasons. But what sort of idiot passes on a private, not far away, and not so large Grateful Dead party and can't even recall why?
Thank you Nora for giving voice and comfort to many women of a certain age and I wish there could have been more.
